Worship Is Warfare

Worship is a cooperative expression that embraces the sound of heaven in the earth as a victorious battle cry!

WE ARE IN A BATTLE! God wants us to learn how to fight, that we might become strong overcomers in Him, and set many captives free. Worship is warfare in God’s Kingdom and we must practice God’s presence in places of worship daily if we are to route the enemies before us and before our children effectively.

A marriage relationship is divorce-proof only when it’s established healthy patters and rhythms of affection and connection. Any time a comment from a third party has the hint or suggestion of anything inappropriate it is mind-boggling what a simple expression about one’s affection for their spouse can do to disarm this inappropriate advance. The appearance doesn’t have to be militant but the loving expression has the same effect as dropping a nuclear bomb in the middle of the camp of adultery that is trying to form against your marriage.

The Old Testament is filled with references to adulterous Israel who turned away from her first love for God to entertain inappropriate relationships with other nations and other gods. We even see this expression carried into the New Testament:

James 4:4 Adulterers, do you not know that friendship with the world means hostility toward God. (NET)

It was the loss of intimacy with her God that would bring Israel to such a vulnerable place to adultery. Cultivating intimacy with God would shut out the distractions of the enemy. It’s interesting to note that historians through the ages consistently noted a pattern with Israel. When she was in bondage she never sang. We see this in Scripture when Israel’s captors would taunt them about their absence of singing:

Ps 137:1-4 By the rivers of Babylon we sit down and weep when we remember Zion. On the poplars in her midst we hang our harps, for there our captors ask us to compose songs; those who mock us demand that we be happy, saying: “Sing for us a song about Zion!” How can we sing a song to the Lord in a foreign land? (NET)

It’s this intimate expression of worship that held Israel’s heart in a healthy place of strength with God. Realize it or not, loving worship toward the Lord deals lethal blows against the enemy!

2 Chr 20:21-22 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying:  “Praise the LORD, For His mercy endures forever.” 22 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.

Notice the description of this song that delivered damaging blows to the enemy. The song was about an expression of love and praise to a merciful God. The appearance doesn’t have to be militant but the loving expression has the same effect as dropping a nuclear bomb in the middle of the camp of adultery that is trying to form against your life, your ministry, your destiny!

David probably didn’t sing militant songs about conquering the enemy in the presence of Saul. Yet we see clearly that the result of what was probably a soothing sound was a very powerful result. Evil spirits would be routed by the very expression of sincere love to God.

1 Sam 16:23 “…David would take the harp and play {it} with his hand; and Saul would be refreshed and be well, and the evil spirit would depart from him. (NAS)

Start your day with worship and realize you are taking control of the airspace. Then go on with your day realizing you are part of the ground troop forces going in to possess what God says belongs to His Kingdom!

Isa 30:32 Every stroke the LORD lays on them with his punishing rod will be to the music of tambourines and harps, as he fights them in battle with the blows of his arm. (NIV)

Acts 16:25-27 But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them…the foundations of the prison house were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s chains were unfastened. And when the jailer had been roused out of sleep… (NAS)

Those sleeping outside of the meeting are awakened and inviting to the Gospel.

Jericho’s walls didn’t just fall down. They fell down after a tired and weary people decided to offer up a shout in an attitude of faith believing God for a breakthrough!!!

Ps 47:1 Clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of joy.

It was the sound of God that initiated all creation.

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. NIV

Psalm 33:6 “By the word of the Lord were the heavens made.” NIV

Worship is a cooperative expression that embraces the sound of heaven in the earth! I believe God didn’t merely speak our world into existence. I believe God sang our world into existence. We see how God sings in Scripture.

Zeph 3:17 says God rejoices over us with singing. NIV

All creation has rhythm of cycles & seasons. Matter is made up of atoms and whirling molecules that are always in motion. All matter in the universe is 99%+ empty space.

If the nucleus of an atom were the size of a marble the electrons would be specks of dust a half mile away. Every physical thing has that much empty space in it. Inside that empty space is intelligence, frequency & rhythm.

This is why we are all capable of being awakened by a song. When the right song begins to play we automatically engage in the rhythm.

When you are in sync with God there is a rhythm about your life of confidence and momentum.

Nothing can stop you when your thinking is right. Nothing help you when your thinking is wrong!

Prv 29:18 If people can’t see what God is doing they stumble all over themselves But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed. MSG

Keep your song from God alive! We’ve all been sitting at that stop light and see the car next to us with the driver in a totally different world of music. Bopping their head and sometimes singing at the top of their lungs. It looks crazy from the outside but if we were hearing what they were hearing we’d be understanding what they were doing.

This is the way it is for all of us when the song of God is awakened in our lives.

Hosea 9:7 says the prophet is considered to be a fool and the inspired man to be a maniac.

In God’s Kingdom we don’t have to lose our song no matter what the situation may be! Historians recognized how Israel would always lose their song when they went into captivity.

Ps 137:1-4 By the rivers of Babylon we sit down & weep.., for there our captors ask us compose songs; those who mock saying: “Sing for us a song about Zion!” How can we sing a song to the Lord in a foreign land? NIV
