Santa Claus Had A Cause!

Just a few hundred years after Jesus lived Nicholas was born to a wealthy family. As he grew up he decided to give away his material possessions and go into ministry. He became known as Nicholas the wonder worker because of his effective prayer life. He would become the Bishop of Myra. It was his faith in Jesus Christ that drove him to give into the lives of others in such a way that he’s become a famous legend even today – the famous Legend of Saint Nick.

Jesus was born to an unknown working class family. After thirty years of obscurity he experienced only three years of public ministry. He remained unknown except for three years of his life before being crucified. Jesus never wrote a book or traveled internationally. In fact a quick look at a map this morning seems to communicate that Jesus never traveled outside a scope of about 100 miles. With all these seemingly limitations Jesus still has a greater legacy than any man who has ever walked planet.

H.G. Wells said, “I am a historian, I am not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history.”

Albert Einstein – “As a child I received instruction both in the Bible and the Jewish Law. I am a Jew, but I am enthralled by the luminous figure of the Nazarene….No one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled w such life.”

More songs have been written and artwork done for Jesus than about any man in the history of the world! Napoleon said, “Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I have founded empires. But on what did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded his empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for him.”

Jesus was clearly William Booth’s inspiration for the Salvation Army and Clara Barton’s inspiration for the Red Cross. Are you available for Christ to establish his legacy through your life?
